7/18/2019 Missing In Action

On the Farm.

Well, it's been a week of unexpected happenings.  It actually started last Wednesday when I was unloading after the Davidson evening market.  I lifted out a cooler and twisted to set it on the ground.  A twinge, and not a good one.  I kept going to get things put away and powered through it.  It's what we all do when there are things to get done.  I was a bit more sore on Thursday, limping on Friday, and immobile on Saturday.  Hooray for driving teenagers.  Sam was rousted from his cozy bed and went to market for me while I moved slowly on crutches - a strained (or slightly torn) groin muscle will slow you down.  It was a test of memory to call in to Sam in the walk-in freezer letting him know what to pass out to Gil, from what shelf or stack, for the morning pack up.  It was great team work and I only forgot a couple of items.

We had a week at the beach planned with the boys - I would go the first half of the week and Gil the latter half so we can keep things going at the farm.  I brought my crutches and ice pack to the beach and the rest and relaxation was just the ticket.  By the time Gil and I swapped on Tuesday I was back to just a small limp and ready to go.  Gil pre-poured the feed for me so I wouldn't have to lift 50# feed bags.  I was collecting eggs when I spotted the hole in the wall of High Cackle Coop.  I gathered tools, wood and screws and a bucket to sit on so I wouldn't have to get up and down and made a crude, albeit effective, repair to the coop (pictured above).  A late night beak count revealed one of the girls was missing.  I'm not sure what kind of predator it was, but it is no longer welcome.

I apologize for missing the Davidson Wednesday market - recuperation prevailed.

Gill will be missing from the Yorkmont market on Saturday as the guys make their way home from Pawley's Island.  I haven't been to that beach in over 25 years, and my has it changed.  I will be back at Davidson on Saturday.  I will be packing a little lighter than usual so if you want something special or several of one item, please let me know by  responding to this email.  Thank you!

At the Markets.

We have a new product - meatloaf!  Our processor makes a one pound meatloaf with our beef and no artificial ingredients.  We tried it out last week and liked it.  It was a nice jump start to an easy dinner.  Stop by and check it out.

Good to Know.

Davidson Wednesday market.  Davidson is hosting a Wednesday market from 4:30 - 7pm.  We started last Wednesday and had a great time (despite the heat).  Summit's open mic night starts at 6:30 so we have built in entertainment and several families were picnicking in the shade. The parking is definitely better that Saturday - give it a try.  We bring a limited menu of items so shoot me a text or email to make sure I'm bringing what you like - 704-308-1431, amyjofoster@yahoo.com

Glad to be back,
