6/26/2019 On the Job.

On the Farm.

The White Leghorns reported for work early. One of them may be the girl who was attempting to nest in the weeds last week. By Sunday an invader had broken the eggs and the three white feathers left behind let me know that the chicken had made it out without harm, just broken dreams. There would have been a lot more feathers if she had perished too. A chicken census the next night confirmed that she returned to the roost. No baby chicks for now.

We are relieved to have a few dry days yet we will be happy we had this rain in late July when it doesn’t rain. It seems the most happy creatures right now in all of this mud are the flies. All 835 gazillion of them. Yowza.

At the Markets.

This week is our annual Drumstick Festival!!! Buy three packs of drumstick and get one free. Who can resist a food with a built in handle just in time for 4th of July grilling?

We will also have burger patties, hot dogs, and other grilling fare for your holiday celebration.

Good to Know.

Winner recipe - Firecracker Chicken Thighs from The Kitchn, https://www.thekitchn.com/firecracker-chicken-258327. We loved this recipe tonight. If you like a little heat, you will love this sweet and spicy recipe - plus, it’s easy and fast. I used leg quarters instead of thighs and it worked out great. The sauce was so tasty we are debating what cut of beef to put it on…

Have a great weekend,
